The old downtown sits on Indian Creek beside the grain elevator, and the streets around it are the original town: small houses, a few rentals, a kitchen remodel here and there. The growth is everywhere else. Subdivisions off Ten Mile Rd, Hwy 69 and Deer Flat Rd have gone up in waves since 2005, with two-story plans, upstairs laundry and builder appliance packages. South of town toward Swan Falls Rd and the Kuna Caves the lots stretch to acres, the pavement turns to gravel, and the houses draw from wells. The truck runs the subdivisions in the morning and the acreage after lunch, or the other way around if a warm refrigerator calls.
Kuna city water is hard groundwater and the newer houses came with softeners; the older streets did not. On the acreage south of Kuna Rd the wells vary from one property to the next, some fine, some heavy with iron and sand that settle in washer valves and dishwasher sumps. Intermountain Gas reaches the subdivisions, and gas ranges and dryers are standard there; further south it is propane and electric. The land is flat and open, so the wind carries field dust into dryer intakes and onto refrigerator coils all summer. Idaho Power storm outages in July reset control boards and confuse inverter compressors. Kuna households commute to Boise in numbers, which is why the early stop and Saturday mornings matter here more than almost anywhere else we go.

A 2019 two-story off Ten Mile, front-loader upstairs, tub full of water and an error on the panel. The homeowner leaves for Boise at seven, so it is the first stop. Pump filter clogged with a child’s sock and a hair clip, pump metered and sound. Cleared, cycle run, out the door before the commute.
South of town, a farmhouse side-by-side with both sides warm, compressor humming and clicking. The start relay has failed, a truck-stock part. Relay replaced, compressor amperage checked, box cooling within the hour. The dog was noted in the request and stayed in the shop.
An older electric dryer in a small house near Indian Creek, no heat, tenant reporting it to an owner in another state. Thermal fuse open on the meter, vent through the crawl space packed solid. Fuse replaced, vent cleared as far as we can reach, and the owner emailed a photo of the lint with the invoice for text approval.
A French door on a well, cubes that had been getting smaller since spring and had finally stopped. The freezer itself was at temperature. The fill valve passes a trickle; the screen is white with scale and orange with iron. Valve replaced, fill volume measured, a note about the house filter and the softener salt left on the counter.
