From the old grid near downtown Nampa the four quarters of the city are minutes away, Caldwell and Middleton are a quick run up the freeway, and Melba, Marsing, Homedale, Wilder, Parma, Star and Kuna sit at the rim of a ring the truck covers in about half an hour.

A few things are true right across the ring: town water is hard groundwater and well water beyond the city limits is harder, pressurized irrigation off the canals gets mistaken for the house supply, summer pushes a garage refrigerator beyond its design, and winter can freeze a dryer vent solid. Each of those bends the diagnosis — a dishwasher element scaled over in Caldwell, a compressor cooked in a Kuna garage, a propane range in Marsing that was converted badly — which is why each area below has its own page and its own notes. Boise, Eagle, Emmett and Mountain Home lie beyond the ring; call from one of those and you hear it on the phone, not from a truck that came out for nothing.
