A Samsung dryer arrived as half of a pair from the stores on Garrity Blvd or near the Franklin Blvd exit, and lives in a hall closet or an upstairs laundry off Cherry Ln, Ustick Rd or Ten Mile Rd. The panel reports faults with a code: a letter for the system and a number or letter for the detail. HE is heat, tS and tO are the temperature sensor, dE and dC are the door, 9C1 is incoming power. These dryers check themselves, but the check that fails is rarely the part that failed. A dryer with a plugged vent posts a heat code on a good element, and swapping the element leaves the vent where it was.

The vent is the local story. Dust from the fields along Can-Ada Rd and the construction around Middleton Rd rides in on every load and mats with lint in the duct. In a December inversion the exhaust hood on the north wall of a Caldwell house ices over and the flap freezes shut. Either way the dryer runs hot, the thermistor reads it, and HE shows on the display. Summer brings the other kind: an Idaho Power brownout during a thunderstorm drops the line voltage at a Kuna subdivision and 9C1 posts on a dryer that has nothing wrong with it. The code is the same on the panel; the causes are on different sides of the wall.

Samsung dryer questions

Why does my Samsung dryer in Nampa keep showing HE even after I replaced the element?

Because the element was probably not the problem. HE posts when the temperature at the exhaust runs outside the limits, and the most common reason in Nampa is a duct packed with lint and field dust, or an exhaust hood frozen shut in a January inversion.
